Interesting comment, Michael. so the study seems genuine enough. I do have a few anecdotal stories from clients and/or potential clients who through their complacency ended up getting left way behind the market. It was also my experience in my former life (before I got into this business) as an accountant that there was a dogged determination from NZ business owners to "Do it the way it has always been done..."

The figures mirror the results of a survey published 2003 by the University of Otago / School of business, wherein many businesses who had a website stated they had no idea of the benefits or how it fitted into their Marketing plan.

As I have been "tracking" New Zealand businesses and their entry into what I refer to as the Internet Age since 2002, NZ business are not the brightest things on two wheels when it comes to doing business in the Internet Age.

NZ business owners / operators are as bright as those overseas but somewhere, somehow their business culture restricts them to doing things the same old way.

Case in point, search and many directory listings appear, where are the NZ business websites, they may have a site but fail to ensure the website ie the window to the customer is open. Their is a disconnect

Hi Edward! If you look at http://www.soapcraft.co.nz you will see a RW5 site with a shop subdirectory that is CubeCart. It is made in 2 parts, ie CubeCart does not integrate with RW, it is a stand alone full shop database, but I was able to add the menu items on both parts to redirect to the respective pages. The shop isn't exactly the same style as the rest of the site, and due to the way the header and logo are done pixel pickers will see some errors, but it is a work n progress (sometimes the budget doesn't stretch to perfection!). The main thing was that the shop part is going to be expanding with many more products which the client needs to handle themselves and RW just doesn't do that.

Thanks for your compliment on my new site. It is WordPress on the Genesis framework using my modified version of the Venture theme :-)

Hey Alison, thanks for that - it so happens I am ready to start a new RW project for a client (probably the biggest I've ever done) and the online shopping request from the client really has me pondering which system works best.

You mention CubeCart in your article - is it possible to use CubeCart with RW5?

Like your new website too - what theme did you use?
