There are a number of options to display images in a way that is both attractive and functional. The problem with large numbers of images is that the page loading slows to a crawl when there is too much data. Care must be taken when preparing images for the web that the file size is an absolute minimum without reducing the image quality. Images for print are not the same format as those for the computer screen and 72 dpi is the optimum resolution for the web.
We often use a page called 'Collage' and an example of that is on our gallery of recent sites. This is only suitable for a small number of images as the nice shadow effects etc are possible by using a slightly larger file type - called png.
